The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare”, requires that all individuals have health insurance or pay a tax penalty. Health insurance can include your employer plan, coverage you buy on your own, medicare or medicaid. The tax penalties are listed below.
- 2014 1% of household income or $95 per person, whichever is greater.
- 2015 2% of household income or $325 per person, whichever is greater.
- 2016 2.5% of household income or $695 per person, whichever is greater.
Coloradans can purchase health insurance through Connect for Health Colorado, our state exchange. If you cannot afford coverage, you might be eligible for financial assistance through Connect for Health Colorado.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE THROUGH CONNECT FOR HEALTH COLORADO – OUR STATE HEALTH INSURANCE EXCHANGE
Certain individuals and families may receive financial help for health insurance through the Colorado state health insurance exchange. To find out if you might be eligible for assistance, please go to ConnectForHealthCO.com.
If you qualify for financial assistance through Connect for Health, you would need to apply for health coverage through the Connect for Health website. If you do not qualify for financial assistance, your easiest way to get health coverage is to shop on our online quoting system above.
OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR INDIVIDUAL INSURANCE ENDED FEBRUARY 15th, 2015.
After February 15th, you may only enroll through Connect for Health Colorado if you have a qualifying “Life Change Event,”such as moving to Colorado. See the complete list of Qualifying Life Change Events below:
- Loss of adequate health insurance coverage (minimum essential coverage as regulated by the government)
- Moved to Colorado
- Employer sponsored group plan is not affordable (guidelines on what is affordable is available on the Connect for Health Colorado website)
- Gain of citizenship or legal immigration status
- Change in incarceration status
- Loss of eligibility for the exemption to purchase health insurance coverage
- Your existing health plan has substantially violated a provision of its contract.
